The Computer Science Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is offering one position to participate in the development of a MapReduce framework for the IBM BlueGene architecture in collaboration with the IBM Watson Lab.
MapReduce is a data-driven programming model originally proposed by Google back in 2004 as a flexible alternative to the existing models, specially devoted to hiding the complexity of both developing and running massively distributed applications in large compute clusters. In some recent works, the MapReduce model has been also used to exploit parallelism in other non-distributed environments, such as multicores, heterogeneous processors and GPUs.
Blue Gene is a computer architecture project designed by IBM to produce several supercomputers, designed to reach operating speeds in the PFLOPS (petaFLOPS) range.
Requirements:
*We are looking for Master/PhD Computer Science students interested on distributed systems, advanced architectures and data analytics software.
*Good English level
*Availability to travel
We are looking for people having:
*Experience with programming on parallel and distributed systems, C++ and Java.
*Experience with MapReduce programming model will be valuable
